Did Vocal Media Just Turn Into a Scam?

I tried Vocal Media maybe a year ago. I participated in a contest and uploaded some Medium stories. Back then, they didn’t support community features like following or commenting, so I stopped because I wanted to focus on building a Medium audience first.
