What is The Point of Retirement, Anyway?

Another Millennial Misunderstanding

I just got the notion one of my former co-workers died from cancer. It came rather unexpected as doctors were assuring his type of cancer was well-treatable.

But then, the shocking news. He died from his severe disease, a couple of years before his official retirement date.

I’m weighed down with sorrow. When I worked in his department we used to drink coffee together almost daily.

The heavy mood kept me thinking: I can instantly name at least four other people from the company who died the last couple of years without even reaching their retirement age.

Then what’s the point of working hard, giving all you can to contribute your share, and then, when it’s your turn to earn the fruit of a hard-working life, you don’t even get a seat at the table.

It’s not fair.
